The Vermont FiberConnect Project is a collaboration between The Vermont Telecommunication Authority (VTA) and Sovernet Communications which has enabled our library to offer Internet speeds up to 50 times faster than typical residential broadband service. Patrons and guests bringing in laptops and other wireless devices are noticing that our wireless service streams videos and uploads content much faster and easier than before. Download and upload speeds on our public access computers have also dramatically increased.

The Project brought a gigabit network to 43 of the state’s libraries in mostly rural counties, including Windham county. FiberConnect access is not free for libraries; negotiated Sovernet rates are $200 per month. But e-rate discounts offer a 50% discount, making the service relatively less expensive.

The bottom line is service to our community; it’s your library so make use of it!
